Sample 5-night Itinerary & Tour Information
Arrival to the Amazon
At the Quito airport, our team welcomes you and assists with check-in. After a short flight to Coca, a motorized canoe carries you down the Napo River, deep into the rainforest. At Sacha Lodge, enjoy a fresh lunch and time to settle in before embarking on your first birding adventure. Glide through blackwater creeks by canoe, where kingfishers flash by and jacamars perch in stillness, before reaching the Kapok Tower for panoramic views and your first encounters with canopy birdlife. As dusk falls, gather with your guide to review the day’s checklist before a welcome dinner.
Canopy Walk & Nocturnal Secrets
Rise early for breakfast before setting out on a morning expedition to the famed canopy walkway—three suspension bridges that offer a bird’s-eye view of the rainforest. Here, watch for tanagers, toucans, and trogons as they flit between the treetops. After lunch, return to the waterways for an afternoon canoe trip, gliding silently past herons and kingfishers. Dinner is followed by a night excursion, revealing the hidden nocturnal life of the forest, before you gather to record your bird sightings for the day.
Yasuni’s Macaw & Parrot Licks
An early breakfast prepares you for a day in Yasuní National Park. Visit the Yasuní Parrot Lick at dawn, where hundreds of vibrant parrots descend to feed on mineral-rich clay. Continue to the Macaw Tree and nearby River Islands, each offering unique birding opportunities. The highlight is the Yasuní Macaw Lick, a rare spectacle of scarlet, blue-and-yellow, and chestnut-fronted macaws swirling overhead. Enjoy lunch in the field, a trail walk through the park, and return to Sacha Lodge by late afternoon. After the checklist session, share stories from this unforgettable birding day over dinner.
Kapok Tower & Forest Trails
Spend the morning at the Kapok Tower, rising above the canopy for close-up views of mixed flocks and soaring raptors. After lunch, follow shaded trails where understory species reveal themselves—antwrens, manakins, and tinamous. The evening may bring owls or potoos on a final night excursion before your checklist session and dinner.
Nueva Providencia Adventure
An early departure takes you into Nueva Providencia, a pristine section of Yasuní National Park known for its rich birdlife and untouched forest. This full-day guided excursion includes two birding walks along remote trails, offering the chance to spot specialties such as woodcreepers moving along tree trunks and the elusive rusty-belted tapaculo calling from the understory. Between walks, enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the sounds of the forest, before continuing your search for rare and remarkable species in one of the Amazon’s most rewarding birding landscapes. Return to the lodge in the afternoon to rest, review your sightings, and celebrate your final evening in the rainforest.
Farewell to the Rainforest
Enjoy a last breakfast surrounded by the sounds of awakening wildlife. Then begin the return journey along the Napo River back to Coca, followed by your transfer to Quito. You depart with a lifetime’s worth of birding memories and a deeper connection to the rainforest’s winged treasures.
